Apply Now

Everlaw is looking for a senior frontend software engineer who brings experience building with React+Typescript, a detail-oriented mindset, and humility in their approach. Tackling litigation with technology is a deep challenge that requires search, databases, data visualization, distributed systems, machine learning, real-time collaboration, and more. We strive to provide our users with access to all of our platform’s powerful enterprise-level functionality wrapped in a best-in-class, consumer-grade interface that is intuitive and easy to use.

You’ll work with autonomy across the frontend stack as a permanent member of our “Frontend Squad”, but we will also encourage you to learn about our entire system and allow you to grow in areas of interest. We care about finding self-driven engineers who love their craft, write clean code, use the right tools for the job, and avoid dogma. As a result, we’ve been able to build sophisticated technology with a talented but relatively small team, and though our team has grown we have maintained a culture where you’ll own serious features, write great software, learn a huge amount, and have a lot of fun setting your own bar. There are no sprints and no hard deadlines (!); code quality and maintainability is paramount.

Engineering is the backbone of the Everlaw Platform. We build features and functionality into the product and ensure its smooth functioning with automation and monitoring tools. We also provide data and insights to the rest of Everlaw. At our core, we like to build, and we enjoy the creative process of building software that works well, scales well, and is reliable and secure. We do this by supporting and empowering our team members to do their best work, by tackling challenging and complex engineering problems, and by nurturing and supporting each team member through mentoring, coaching, and comprehensive feedback.

At Everlaw, our mission is to promote justice by illuminating truth. Our company culture is open and vibrant and we’re committed to the professional growth of our team members, offering an annual learning and development stipend and regular check-ins with managers regarding career goals. If you’re looking for a place that values passion, integrity, thinking big, and a desire to learn, we’d love to hear from you! Think you’re missing some of the skills and are hesitant to apply? We do not believe in the ‘perfect’ candidate and encourage you to apply if you feel you can bring value to our team.

This is a full-time exempt position based in our Oakland, California office with a hybrid work schedule: in office M/W/Th with the option to work from home Tu/Fr.

Getting started

  • We want you to feel like part of the team early on! Our onboarding process will integrate you into the company with informative sessions on our product, policies, processes, and team structure and goals.
  • We’re excited for you to learn, grow, and contribute right away! We trust that you’ll bring experience and knowledge that will uplift and uplevel the team, but we don’t expect you to know everything on Day 1.

  • Build, maintain, and optimize reusable design system components, representing the building blocks of our eDiscovery platform’s UI.
  • Rearchitect and rewrite existing platform functionality in React using our new design system.
  • Develop custom hooks and other features that improve our frontend infrastructure such as drag & drop, animation, and state management.
  • Develop features that improve our frontend tooling such as JS bundling, design system token generation, CI strategies, and dependency management.
  • Be a Code Reviewer by reviewing code developed by others using your knowledge of programming languages, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the others on the Frontend Squad to help develop our roadmap and prioritize what we work on, as well as to define processes and best practices for both the squad and the larger engineering team.
  • Collaborate closely with the design team on how to build reusable UI components that are both powerful and flexible.
  • Champion frontend best practices like accessibility to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical mentorship to our full-stack engineers who are using React to build new platform functionality.
